ANKARA VOLUNTEER TEAM

 

                                                    THE CHARITY TEAM

           In this journal I want to talk about Ankara Volunteer Team. This is a group which helps students who can’t find sufficient chance for their education and its members are METU students.I chose this subject because I am one of the member of this team for 2 years and every sunday I meet my children.

            In 2009 Ankara Volunteer Team founded and since 2009 helps a lot of children.When I came METU I heard this name and I wanted to be a part of this team.I think it is very useful because everyone can’t have same chance and somebody should help them and I am happy for helping these children.Ankara Volunteer Team works in two ways.In first way volunteers go these children’s school and make some activities with these children at their schools on weekend.For example volunteers teach acting abilities for theatre also they teach how to read more fast the passage.They study together whole weekend and both volunteers and children have fun.In second way volunteers go children’s home every weekend and study there.I am in the group who go children’s home.I think it’s very good to go children’s home becaus you try to communicate with them and it’s better to see their own home and how to live there. Also we can observe their parent’s behaviour and it gives us clue about children’s behaviour.We can talk about not only children but also parents deeply and doing this we try to help both of them.

I talked a lot about the children’s benefit but now I want to talk about my benefits which I gain from Ankara Volunteer Team.First of all I will become a teacher and from now on I have a chance to learn how to communicate with children.I want learn not only teaching a lesson but also how to touch their life because I think a good teacher should do both of them.In Ankara Volunteer Team I can learn this.Also there is another benefit for me. In university we are living alone and we aren’t together with our families.Thus when I go my children’s home I can feel the intimacy of family in that house because their mother acts as if she is also my mother.She prepares delicious food for me and they are waiting me eagerly.

You can see that I am very happy to be a member of this team and I strongly recommend join us. I am sure that while you learn so many things ,you enjoy. Also you feel better because you like taste of helping somebody.

 

                                             THE BEST PLACE FOR FUN

    In the past,people had no television at home and they used to g oto the cinema to watch films.They would gather in a movie theater and watch films together.But as time went,television was invented and people started to watch films at home.Of course there are people who continue to g oto the cinema.Both are quite enjoyable and in some aspects they have similarities, but they have a lot differences.

    There are differences between watching movies at home and going to the movie theater.When you go to the cinema,lights are turned off,everyone stops talking,and you focus the film.But while watching a film at home,there is a cosy atmosphere.Your friends talk,you change rooms,when your phone ring you answer so you can’t concentrate on film as you concentrate in the movie theater.The other difference is about money.You get ticket for each person before going to the cinema so it can be expensive.But at home you turn on the television and watch the film with a lot of people.While watching a film at a movie theater,you sit on a chair which can be uncomfortable but at home you sit on your sofa and watching a film comfortably.The last difference is the release date of movies.Films are shown at movie theaters firstly so you may not find the film on DVD or VCD to watch at home.Thus,if you want to watch the film earlier you should g oto the movie theater.

    There are similarities between going to the movie theater and watching movies at home.You are with your family or friends in both have a good time with them.Both of them are enjoyable and when you get bored they are good options to have fun.Both are cultural activities because every film shows new world to its audience.You learn new cultures,see new places in films so you gain these knowledge both at home and at movie theater.

    Watching a film is a good pastime activity no matter where you watch.There are differences among them sucs as concentrating on films,ticket prices or their comfort.Also there are similarities for example both are cultural and enjoyable and these similarities can make it hard to choose.Whicever you choose I am sure you will enjoy yourself so much.

NEW SCHOOLS NEW OPTIONS

    University students start a new life and change their life styles a bit.They meet new     friends,attend new school maybe they remove to new city so they should change the place where they live.If they want they can continue to live with their family or they live apart from them.Both of these options are pretty good and they have similarities but the differences are more.

    Staying at college is different from staying with family in many aspects.Firstly, you are lonely anymore and you have to do chores on your own like washing the dishes,cooking,washing the clothes at dormitory.While mothers can do these chores at home you are responsible for these duties at dormitory.Secondly,you can’t act freely as if you were alone at your own room because you share your room with other people and you ought to respect them.Thirdly,dormitory has some rules and you should obey them.For example you can’t go out after midnight freely as you did at home.Finally, at dormitory you miss your parents but at home you are with them.

    Staying at college or staying with family have some similarities but not many.In both places you tidy your room,your bed.You have to study lesson in these places.You can’t speak loudly or make noise.

    To sum up, these two places are very good for a university student.They have similarities and differences.Some of differences can be hard to get use to.Thinking of these similarities and differences like chores,sharing your room and rules, you can make your choice.This is your decision but I think staying at home with family is the best and comfortable.

                                                                 TOPKAPI PALACE

    Turkey has a lot of historcal places but one of them is very important and very famous.Its name is Topkapı Palace.Fatih Sultan Mehmet had it built in 1478.Its construction lasts 12 years.It had been the center of state for 380 years until Abdulmecit had Dolmabahçe Palace built.It was 700.000 square meter and approximetely 4000 people used to live there.The people who lived in Topkapı Palace abondened there when Dolmabahçe and Yıldız Palaces were built but it has never lost its popularity.Sultan and his family used to visit it and they had never neglect it.

    Topkapı Palace was first opened in public in the era of Abdülmecit.Topkapı Palace was shown The English Ambrassador and showing it has been tardition from that time.Mustafa Kemal Atatürk donated it İstanbul Âsâr-ı Atika Muze in order to open it to the public.After some restoration it was opened to the public in 1924.In 1985 it was  reported as world inheritance by Unesco.It is used as muze today.It is opened  to visitor except for Thursday.Also it is used for some TV programs.

    I think it is very gorgeus  place.When i visited there i was fascinated.It was very beautiful and also very huge so i got tired of while i was visiting.If you haven’t gone so for you should visit absolutely.

                                              TITANIC

   You must have heard ‘Titanic’.The famous,huge,gorgeous ship…In this writing,I will give information about its construciton process,voyage and sinking.

    Titanic’s construction started in 31 March 1909.It’s construction lasted 26 months and approximately 11300 workers worked on it.It was completed in 31 March 1912.

    In that time,Titanic was the most powerful,expensive and rich ship.It had swimming pool,sport hall,library,tenis court and bathroom.It was seperated in three clasess.First class was rich people and it was very luxuries.It was decorated with expensive furniture and maids were always serving drinking for that people,second class was less luxuries;however,third class room was small and a lot of people was staying there.It had very technological funcitions in his time.Despite this whole functions Tıtanic made shocked people and sank 15 April 1912 night.Actually a lot of warning was made but no one took care these warning.Also according to a worker from ship that night everthing was oppose to them because there was no moon,wind and telescope.

    That night a watchman whose name is Freder Fleet saw iceberg and warned captain.But it was too late because iceberg was too close and there wasn’t so much things to do.Captain tried to do save the ship but he couldn’t obstruct collision.When ship hit iceberg a problem occured.There wasn’t enough lifeboat so very few people was saved and a lot of people died.At first woman and children from first and second class got on the lifeboats so a lot of people from third class died.Approximately 710 people survived but 1514 people died.

    I chose this subject because this story affect me so much.I feel sorry especially people from third class.I hope I can take your attention.

SHERLOCK HOLMES

    Today i want to give information you abaout famous dedective Sherlock Holmes.He was created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.This fictional hero is one of the most famous characters in literature.Sherlock Holmes was born in 6 January 1854 in London.He solves the problem by observing.He is a bohemian man.He uses morphine and cocaine.He hides these drugs in weird places at his home.He has a brother whose name is Mycroft.He is dedective like his brother.Although Holmes doesn’t like women so much there is a woman in his life.Her name is Irene Adler.Irene is the only woman in Sherlock’s life.This may be look romantic but actually it doesn’t.Because Sherlock is far from love according to his writer.

   These days Sherlock Holmes is being spoken with new film ‘Sherlock Holmes-A Game Of Shadows’.Robert Downey JR acts as Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law acts as his assistant Dr. John Watson and we see Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler.Subject of the film is as follows:By now, Sherlock Holmes has been the most intelligent man but now he ran across as intelligent as him ‘Dr. Moriarty’.Moriarty kills people, Sherlock and Watson try to stop him.I think film fascinate people with its intelligent fiction.It is very fascinating.You watch the film excitedly and you can’t understand how the time passes.If you haven’t watch it you should watch immediately.I am sure you will like it.

LA TOMATINA FESTIVAL

The people in the Spain has a great change to relax.They can throw tomato each other in a legal way.Morever municipalty support this festival and organize itself.In this way, Spanish and the tourist who comes from other place enjoy like children in every august.

  It takes place in Bunal ,a town of Valencia.It is organized in last Wednesday of august.It last one week and start with dance and music shows.After these shows the most exciting and funny parts of festival begins:’throwing tomato’.A water baloon  blows and with this everbody start to throw tomato each other.Throwing tomato to people is exciting and relaxing.Everybody who participate this organization accept this statement and advise the other people.In this way the  festival get famous and number of participants increase every year.

  After the festival, streets get red and they are covered with tomato.So cleaning streets and yourself may be a problem but there is solutions about it.Participation always  are cleaned the shower near the Lake Bunal.And if you are lucky you can meet the helpful homeowner.

  There is some rules which you have to obey during the festival.You can’t enter the festival area with glass, knife or other hard and dangerous material.Because some people Throw them instead of tomato.And you shoul squeeze the tomato before throwing because if you dont you can hurt other participant.

  We cannot know exactly how and when it started but we guess that it started around 1944-45.Acording to some people it started with some teen’s fight among each other.The others say it began when president came to the town and and a rebellious man throw tomato to protest him.Whatever the reason is we know people liked it.
